Indoors vs. Outdoors

As much as we’re big believers in embracing the elements year-round…

Sometimes, it’s just too brutal to get out there in the great outdoors during a classic British winter.

From time to time, you might want to consider indoor training.

Trouble is, when you’re used to doing all your workouts outside, you can get ‘deer in the headlights’ syndrome when you take things indoors.

Plenty of triathletes just end up mindlessly pedalling away on the turbo trainer, or doing boring mile after boring mile on the treadmill.

In this article, Brownlee Fitness coach Nick Harris walks you through 5 specific indoor workout styles you can try this winter.

There’s a time and a place for wrapping up, getting that rain jacket on, and getting out there to forge some mental resilience for a cross country run session etc.

Doing a parkrun once a month helps with motivation in the winter, which doesn’t always have to be a threshold session, but could be a zone 2 or 3 run with mates.

Jonny recently signed off his 2024 season with a 14:05 5k on Saturday – the same day the parkrun ‘world best’ was beaten.

And a time and a place for keeping the summer attire, and treating yourself to a bit of indoor training like bike and run sessions on zwift for example.

Brownlee Fitness do offer FREE Zwift Hare and Hounds which anyone can join! Every Tuesday Evening at 6pm.

So if that’s what you need to do, check out the article, and happy training.
