Most people think that fitness declines as you get older.
But that doesn’t have to be the case.
See, fitness is actually a lot like fine wine.
It can get better as you age.
Granted, some aspects do start to slide after age 35.
Strength, for one.
And your speed and explosiveness can drop.
But as for pure aerobic fitness?
A lot of athletes don’t hit their peak in that regard until they’re well into their 40s.
And actually, the longer duration of an event, the better us “old folks” tend to do.
That’s why we don’t see age as a barrier at Brownlee Fitness.
Some of our top athletes are still crushing it in their races.
They’re podiuming (and even winning) national and international age group events.
Which is amazing.
But what’s the one thing they have in common that helps them stay fit, strong and injury-free?
They have a plan that’s specific to them.
A big reason why so many athletes tend to see a performance decline from their mid-30s, is because they try to follow the same program they did in their 20s.
And that just won’t cut it.
Training shouldn’t get easier…
But it does need to change.
There’s a greater need for more focused recovery.
You might need more strength and pre-hab work.
Speed training needs to become more dialled in and specific.
And overall volume may need to be adjusted.
So if you do feel like your fitness is declining the older you get -
It’s probably not the fact you’re getting older.
It’s probably just that you’re on the wrong plan.
