If you are looking for a tried and tested approach to improving your performance as a triathlete it makes sense to look to the methods used by two of the sport’s best athletes: the Brownlee brothers. Learning from their 40 years combined experience in the sport, and the coaching team who support them, is the best investment you’ll ever make in your athletic future.

Our Philosophy

Brownlee Fitness is based on a simple principle: we want to help anyone, of any standard, to achieve more. Achievement is simply measured by knowing that you are better equipped to meet your goals than you were yesterday, and better than you were last week.

We believe that consistency is the key to any successful training regime. Being able to repeat the same training week in and week out will build your fitness in layers, something that is critically important for an endurance sport like triathlon. Of course, to see these improvements you actually have to do the training – reading the plan on the sofa just won’t do!

To that end, we want you to enjoy the training, even though some of the sessions will be hard, and to work towards the goal provided the reason for doing the training in the first place. You may be able to train with a club or a group of friends, but if that’s not possible the team at Brownlee Fitness will be your constant companions in the journey towards a fitter, stronger, faster you.

Meet the Team:

Mark Buckingham (Head Coach)

Qualified to BTF Level 3 and UK Athletics Level 2, Mark has been coaching athletes of all abilities for over a decade. Originally a runner, he represented GB in track & field, cross country and mountain running, he took up triathlon quite late at the age of 25 and has raced and trained alongside the Brownlee brothers for seven years as part of the British Triathlon squad.

Dane Mitchell (S&C)

Dane is a UKSCA accredited coach with a Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning. He is the Head of S&C coach at Leeds Beckett University and for a number of Olympic athletes based in Leeds including Alistair and Jonny. Best known for his fantastic mobility drills, he offers specific plans for running and multisport.

Alistair Brownlee MBE

The only person to claim ITU World Champion crowns as a Junior, U23, and Elite, and, more significantly, the only one to ever successfully defend Olympic triathlon gold, his arrival on the circuit reshaped the way this sport is raced. Whilst currently targeting an unprecedented third consecutive Olympic gold, Brownlee has also developed into a force in middle and long distance triathlon, second twice at World 70.3 Championships and most recently winning Ironman Western Australia, breaking the course record by more than six minutes.

Jonathan Brownlee

The Olympic silver (2016) and bronze (2012) medalist has been one of the most consistent athletes over the last 10 years, notably finishing on the podium in every triathlon from July 2010 to May 2014 – 42 races in a row. A World Champion at Sprint and Olympic distance, Jonny has also won Commonwealth Games medals and been victorious at Super League racing. He plans to ‘go long’ after the Tokyo Olympics.
